Hero Arts Weekend Inspiration

This card was created for Hero Arts Weekend Inspiration.  This was the photo for the inspiration:

Here's how I made the card:

First, I inked the "tall grass" stamp from Hero Arts Earth Flowers clear stamp set with Peeled Paint & Forest Moss Distress ink, misted it with water, and stamped across the bottom edge the paper.

Next, the "flower bundle" stamp (from the same clear stamp set) was inked with Mustard Seed Distress ink, misted with water, and stamped across the paper.

The purple flowers were made by inking a stamp from Hero Arts Real Garden Petals clear stamp set with Dusty Concord Distress ink, misted with water, and stamped randomly across the page.

I then tore the edges of my cardstock and ran a strip of blue ribbon across the bottom (to "resemble" the blue vases in the picture).

The sunflowers were stamped using an old Rubber Stampede stamp inked with Versamark and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  (I stamped the image 3 times). I then watercolor painted them using Distress ink pads tapped on my craft pad, misted with water, and painted on the flower and leaves.  Ink colors for the flowers were Spiced Marmalade & Rusty Hinge Distress inks.  The leaves were colored with Peeled Paint & Forest Moss Distress Inks.   The center of the flowers were colored with a Copic Sketch marker (E29 - Burnt Umber).  The flowers were then cut out and adhered with 3D foam squares.

I used a stamp from Hero Arts Fancy Friendship clear stamp set for my sentiment.  The stamp was inked with Versamark and heat embossed with black embossing powder.  The edges of my sentiment banner were then torn and the edges distressed with Faded Jeans Distress ink.  This banner was also adhered with 3D foam squares.

I just can't resist "resist"!!

Okay......so here I go again.  Yep, it's the same Hero Arts "Lotus Background" stamp!  Ya just gotta love it!!!  I made this card using a couple of different resist techniques.  The background was made by stamping the Lotus Background, "painted" with acrylic paint, onto white cardstock.  After the paint dried, I covered the design with Frayed Burlap Distress Stain.  The center of the card was the Lotus Background stamped with Versamark ink onto off-white cardstock, heat embbssed, then covered with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  The shape was cut using Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels Four. The center shape was then glued onto the background aligning with the pattern of the stamp.

Wide ivory satin ribbon was then added.  I really wanted a lotus-type flower as the embellishment, so I took a flower from the Petaloo "Color Me Crazy" pack, folded 2 of the petals toward the center of the flower and created my own "lotus".   I made loops of narrow brown ribbon and inserted them in between the petals of the flower.  The flower was then embellished with a variety of adhesive pearls and gems. I glued the flower to the card using 3D foam squares to give it some dimension. Here's a close-up of the flower:

The greeting was stamped with Walnut Stain Distress ink and cut out using Spellbinders Nestabilities Mega Ovals LG.

I'm not very good at sketching out a card ahead of time......I just seem to create as I go.  However, there are certain aspects of this card that I would do differently were I to make a similar card again.  But, that's okay!!  Live and learn right??!!!

Resist Technique

I really love the resist technique, and I really love the Hero Arts "Lotus" stamps.  I wanted to make a card for a friend who loves the color "sapphire blue", so I came up with this.  Here's how I did it:

I stamped the "Lotus Background" stamp with Versamark ink and stamped it on white cardstock and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.   Then I covered the cardstock with "Faded Jeans" Distress Ink.

The large flower in the center was made using the "Lotus Leaves" clear stamp set with the individual stamps aligned on a clear acrylic block.  These stamps were then also stamped with Versamark, heat embossed with white embossing powder and sponged with "Faded Jeans" and "Chipped Sapphire" Distress inks (for the "head" of the flower) and "Peeled Paint" & "Forest Moss" Distress inks for the stem and leaf.  The flower was then cut out, placed on white cardstock, and cut out again.

I made the center strip by taking a strip of plain white cardstock and "smearing" it with "Faded Jeans" Distress ink by pressing/rubbing the ink pad over the cardstock until I achieved the color I wanted.

After gluing a strip of white ribbon onto the surface, the background and strip were glued onto a 5x7 white card.   The flower was then adhered with 3D foam squares.  The sentiment was also adhered with a 3D foam square, and finally, white adhesive pearls were added to border a portion of the sentiment.

These Hero Arts "Lotus" stamps are becoming some of my favorites - especially the background.  Sorry, but you'll probably see more cards soon with that same background stamp! ;-)  It's always fun to play with a new stamp over and over again!!!

"Autumn" Resist

For this card, I began by stamping the Hero Arts "Lotus Background" with Versamark ink then stamped onto tan-colored cardstock.  This was then heat-embossed with clear embossing powder. After embossing, I sponged the cardstock with Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo Distress Inks.

The center of the card, behind the large lotus flower, was cut out using Spellbinders Nestabilities "Labels Four".

The large Lotus flower, as well as the smaller lotus leaves were both from the Hero Arts "Lotus Leaves" clear stamp set.  Both were stamped on tan-colored cardstock with Versamark ink and heat-embossed with clear embossing powder.  All shapes were cut out.  The smaller leaves were then sponged with Rusty Hinge, Wild Honey, Fired Brick and Forest Moss Distress inks.

The sentiment was stamped on tan cardstock with Walnut Stain Distress ink using Hero Arts "Find Joy" clear stamp set.  The edges of the sentiment were then distressed with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

The final touch was adding gold pearls as accents.
